When you think about it, there is very little that can stop anyone from being a high achiever. Ok, some have a better education than other, some have lucky breaks, but if a person really sets their mind on something and goes for it, then almost anything is possible. What really sets apart the high achievers from the rest of the world is their mind-set. Firstly, they really do want to achieve and secondly, they live their lives with a set of rules that help to facilitate their achievements. If you take a look at some billionaires, successful politicians or world figures, you will probably find that they followed most, if not all, of these 12 life lessons and life rules to help them get to the top:
1. They are fastidiously organized
Take a look at a high achievers home or office and you will find everything in its appointed place and no clutter and muddle. They are organized by nature, but this tidiness also has a practical purpose- they value their precious time and they don’t want to waste it looking for something.
2. They talk , listen more
High achievers know how to tame their tongue. They usually listen a lot more then they talk. They talk only when they have something valuable and important to say, and not just to fill in the uncomfortable silence.
3. Ability to learn and apply the knowledge quickly
They never stop learning new things. You might think that the top businessman in the country would know all there is to know about business, but you can bet that he is still an avid reader. High achievers never assume that they know all that there is to know, they are constantly on lookout for good knowledge is power.
4. A healthy spirit in a healthy body
High achievers realize the importance of taking good care about not only their mind, but also their body, because they consider that health is wealth. They love regular exercising or swimming, and they make sure to keep their diet healthy and clean, because these factors determine their energy levels and thus productivity.
5. They don’t do it alone
The sportsperson needs a coach, a fine actor needs a director and likewise, high achievers don’t do all the work alone. They knows it’s actually easier for a company- or a dream- to grow quickly if there are more people engaged in making it work. They are also able foster great relationships and build teams that can help them achieve what they want even faster.
6. They don’t envy others, they have role models instead
They are like flowers that do not think of competing to the flower they are next to. They just bloom. They choose to live envy-free life. A high achiever might have role models instead. Their objective is to get the things in life that they want, not to worry about what someone else has.
7. Even a wrong decision is better than none
Another remarkable life lesson that we can all learn from high achievers is that they are not afraid to make decisions. The go getters of the world are decisive, they make it a rule of their life to be that way and they work on the assumption that making no decision is far worse, than making a wrong one.
8. High achieves are notorious goal setters and plan makers
As well as an ordered home and office environment, achievers have an ordered mind. Diaries, lists, schedules, they keep everything in order and written down and they make a conscious decision to stay full control of each day, as well as their own destiny.
9. They push themselves to the limit or pay other people to push them
Whatever it is they do, in work or in play, high achievers will never give anything less than 110%. They live by the old adage: “If it’s worth doing, then it’s worth doing well”, and second best is just not an option for them; this is why high achievers surround themselves with coaches and mentors and pay them for pushing them out of their comfort zone, because this is where things are done.
10. They don’t pay attention to what others think about them, because they are, probably, their own harshest critic
High achievers believe in themselves and know that the only criticism that really counts is self-criticism. This is not to say that they are all arrogant, because they are probably their own harshest critic, but it doesn’t mean that they let idle rumor dissuade them from their path
11. Don’t put all eggs in one basket
One of the cautious life rules of high achievers and successful people is- never test the depth of the river with both feet. They might be go-getters and risk takers, but they always retain their caution and weigh those risks up first. High achievers done risk everything on a single throw of the dice; they spread their bets instead to ensure that a single failure is just a setback and not a complete disaster.
12. They value honesty but do not expect to always receive it
A successful person knows that, even if they are honest themselves, not to expect honesty from everyone else and when they do find an honest person, they really respect and value that. It’s a sad reflection on the human condition, but a high achiever trusts no one implicitly, except for themselves.
