Why is one person happy and the next – not? Sure, there are chemicals in your body that can affect your mood and even cause depression or bi-polar disorder, but, in general, there are still those of us that seem to have a smile on our face all the time and those that are always moaning about the weather. So how does that person, who is always in a good mood, do it every single day? What do they know that we don’t? If it’s a potion, where can I get some?! It transpires that happy people just have a slightly different outlook on life than the, less than happy people. They just do things a bit differently. Well, first of all, they smile more often 🙂

1. They know how to make friends
Happy people make the effort to be with other people. One of the main causes of depression is social isolation, which is just being made worse by the advent of social networking on the internet. So, don’t just text or leave a Facebook message, get out and see the person!
2. They have optimism
A happy person’s glass is always half full and never half empty. Rather than moaning about what’s gone wrong or how bad the weather is, happy people celebrate what has gone right and they learn to dance in the rain.
3. They know that money isn’t everything
Happiness isn’t measured by the size of your bank balance. Money helps, let’s not be foolish about this, but it’s not the be all and end all. If you think back to the happiest moments in your life, they probably had absolutely nothing to do with money.
4. Happy people look after their health
You can’t be happy if you’re feeling groggy and unwell. One of the routes to happiness is looking after your mind and your body. Eating healthy and exercising helps to keep you alert, but equally, giving yourself time to relax will take care of the stress too.
5. They do the things that they enjoy
Happy people deliberately seek out the things that they enjoy. They follow careers that bring them pleasure and satisfaction, they follow pastimes that they enjoy and, above all else, happy people do things to please themselves and are not always trying to please others.
6. Happy people know how to set goals
The happiest people in the world are goal setters and often achievers, but they know how to set achievable goals. There’s no point at all goal setting process, if you know that you will never achieve them, it’ll only get you down.
7. They know how to live in the moment
Past is behind you, future is not yet graspable, happy people learned the power of the present moment, they know how to enjoy everyday life’s experiences and how to be fully present in the moment. Stop. Take a deep breath. Notice what’s around you – that’s life! Present moment is the only time we have or will ever have. Hence, enjoy it!
8. They know how to be grateful
Be grateful for what you have, it’s more than you might think. Some of the happiest people in the world are those with very little, but they are still grateful for the things that they do have. Gratitude brings you the feeling of happiness, satisfaction and abundance. Count your blessings and you will see them multiply!
9. Happy people keep things in perspective
So your best friend forgot your birthday, she’s still your best friend, isn’t she? Happy people don’t dwell on the little niggles in life; they just shrug them off and get on with it.
10. They find a happy balance
What happy people do differently? A happy person gives time to everything: work, rest and play. Finding the right balance, especially the ‘work vs recreation’ balance, is vital to personal happiness. All work and no play isn’t good! If you want to be happy, take some time for playing and having fun!
11. Happy people are kind to others
You know all the sayings: ‘Do unto others as you would have them do to you’, ‘It is far better to give than to receive’…There’s more to it, than you might guess and happy people tend to be the generous people, who treat everybody they meet with respect and kindness. It’s better to be kind than to be right!
12. They don’t stress over small stuff
Happy people know how to enjoy great and important things in life and they also know how to let small problems roll off their shoulders. If you have a problem just ask yourself this question: “Will this matter in 10 years time?” If your answer is “no”, then it’s time to let go and forget about it…
13. They have stable rhythm of life
What happy people do differently? Happy and successful people tend to go to sleep at the same time every evening and wake up early every morning. This stable life rhythm helps to increase productivity and reduce stress.
14. They associate with right people

They tend to chose their friends very wisely, it’s not because happy people are picky or arrogant, they just know the simple truth: “You are the average of the five people you associate with most, so do not underestimate the effects of your pessimistic, unambitious, or disorganized friends. 15. Happy people don’t lie
Lying can only add stress and anxiety to your life and to your relationships. Jesus Christ said: “…the truth will set you free”. These words have such a deep meaning, this also means that lies tie you up. Be honest and you will be happy!
